在非常著名且备受欢迎、讲述大自然荒野中发生的故事的电视节目“陌生荒漠”那亲切、深受爱戴的主持人去世步入天堂之后，他的儿子彼得·高尔克接手了这档电视系列剧……然而，就像众所周知的那样，他永远都没办法超越他父亲在电视界的地位。

　　然而缺乏天分的彼得，同时也没有意识到自己的无知、愚蠢却又喜欢装模作样，他反而满心欢喜地随意在节目上大放厥词，他讲述的故事不但像记录片一样沉闷无聊，还都是一些可疑且未经证实的猜测--比如说“熊的名字起源于芝加哥的一个足球队”或“海狸与西瓜有远亲关系”等等。如此一来，几乎是完全能够预见的，本来备受观众喜爱的电视节目，收视率一路跌入谷底，眼看再不打个漂亮的翻身仗，就只能面临被毙掉的危险了。彼得和他的搭档弗雷德·沃尔夫明白，除非他们能够寻找到大自然的“奇迹”，才有可能重新拯救这档电视节目的命运，虽然地球人都知道，他们只是在进行一次无意义的赌博。

　　也许一路倒霉下去，真的会得到时来运转的机会：一个曾经和彼得的父亲一起在野外经历了死里逃生的伙伴比尔·卡尔霍恩突然造访，他的手中有一块据说价值连城的地图，虽然里面的秘密与宝藏无关，却直指历史上最神秘的生物--“大脚兽”在丛林中的藏匿洞穴，于是彼得毫不犹豫地决定买下这张地图。

　　不顾一切地想要找到一个绝妙的电视节目素材，好让濒临死境的“陌生荒漠”重获新生，彼得带着搭档兼调音员弗雷德、摄影师米勒斯、米勒斯的瘾君子侄子朱尼尔，当然还包括懒惰、让人讨厌的制作助理库克……他们自以为寻找“大脚兽”就是一个等待已久的完美机会，甚至还专门为此雇佣了两个新的工作人员--比尔·惠特克和一位拥有让人惊讶的经验和美丽的旅游调度员，准备就绪后，他们就开着那辆破旧的采访车，出发去厄瓜多尔了。

　　然而，从一开始，这个极度不靠谱却又野心勃勃的“远征队”，就被重重的天灾人祸所困扰着：为了拍摄一组鲨鱼的短片，这帮人将司机丹尼装扮成一只海狮的样子，然后把他放入满是鲨鱼的水域里，结果自然是可想而知甚至是悲惨的……随后，他们又与黑帮分子发生了口角。三天后，当彼得与他的制作组抵达比尔的小木屋时，才发现他已经把地图卖给一个叫斯盖·佩尔森的人了。

　　充满歉意的比尔同意给他们一份地图的复印件，还给他们介绍了一个专业的丛林追踪高手。这群人满怀希望地向南挺进，希望可以早他们的竞争对手一步，发现“大脚兽”藏匿的地方。但事实也证明，这个过程并不若想象得那般轻松，在路上，这帮倒霉的人几经丧命的边缘，他们遭遇了过分热情的边境卫兵、一只多情的火鸡、一个专吃鲜肉的鱼群，还有随便杀人的当地土著人……一大堆诸如此类的障碍，简直就是在上演一出活生生的“陌生荒漠”的现场秀。

　　剧情简介：繁荣都市下的黑暗世界

　　年轻漂亮的安娜·基特洛瓦(娜奥米·沃茨饰)在伦敦城内一家医院上班。作为医院里的一名普通的助产护士，安娜除了平日里略显枯燥的生活之外，只有工作时与各种病患以及准母亲们的交流能令她体会到工作和生活的意义了。
